Porcelain veneers could be just what you need if you are unhappy with your crooked or tipped smile. If you have teeth that are badly stained that cannot be helped with professional teeth whitening or teeth that are gappy, too long or too short, Dr. Julie Storm from Timberview Family Dentistry in Midwest City can improve your smile with porcelain veneers.
What are Porcelain Veneers?
Veneers are custom made to fit the fronts of your teeth and mimic the light, just like your natural teeth do. Made from thin sheets of porcelain, veneers are permanent and require some removal of the enamel on your teeth to assure a custom and natural looking fit.
The Porcelain Veneers Procedure
If you and Dr. Storm believe you are a good fit for porcelain veneers, a small portion of your enamel will be removed before a dental impression is made of your teeth. Once made, the mold will be sent to the lab for manufacture. If your teeth are unsightly, temporary veneers may be placed for aesthetics and comfort.
Once your veneers are ready, usually about two weeks, your teeth will be roughened before a liquid is applied that helps the bonding material adhere to the veneers and your tooth. When Dr. Storm is satisfied with placement, the veneer will be placed permanently before sculpting and polishing into shape.
What to Expect
Your porcelain veneers can give you years of use as long as you practice good oral hygiene. It is imperative that you brush, floss and schedule regular dental appointments with Timberview Family Dentistry. Also, eat a good diet and avoid chewing on ice or anything else that could damage your porcelain veneers. Unlike dental bonding, which isn’t as strong as veneers, your veneers will be more resistant to stains and chipping.
